BlackBerry Priv VS BlackBerry Dtek50

The release of the BlackBerry Priv saw the security minded manufacturer move over to the Android OS, offering a secure and solid interface. The release of the BlackBerry DTEK50 has continued to developed BlackBerry’s relationship with Android and popularised the pairing of these tech giants.

1. Size

The BlackBerry DTEK50 is the smaller of the pair, measuring 147 x 72.5 x 7.4mm and 135g, with the Priv coming in at a slightly larger 147 x 77.2 x 9.4mm and  192g.

2. Keyboard

The BlackBerry Priv offers SmartSlide technology with a QWERTY keyboard, while the DTEK50 is touchscreen only (no physical keyboard).

3.Display

The Priv houses a slightly larger display to match its larger frame, with a 5.4 inch screen ( resolution at 2560 x 1440 pixels & 540ppi.)

The BlackBerry DTEK50 houses a 5.2-inch display that features a Full HD resolution resulting in a pixel density of 424ppi.

4. Hardware

BlackBerry’s Priv is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chip and is supported by 3GB of RAM. It offers double the internal memory than the DTEK50 at 32GB (expandable via micro SD). The DTEK50 runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 617 processor, 3GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable flash memory.

5. Software

Running on Android Marshmallow with a number of pre-loaded apps (including the incredible DTEK security software, the BlackBerry DTEK50 offers a solid experience.  The BlackBerry Priv also runs on Android, also with a number of pre-loaded apps.

6. Cameras

Capture the moment with DTEK50′s 13-megapixel rear camera, with f/2.0 aperture, dual-tone LED flash, optical image stabilisation and phase detection auto focus. The handset is capable of recording 1080p video at 30fps and houses an 8 megapixel front-facing camera with an f/2.2 aperture and selfie flash.

The Priv does offer a slightly higher resolution rear camera at 18-megapixels with a dual LED flash, OIS, PDAF and a dual-LED flash on board. However the aperture is slightly narrower at f/2.2 and the front-facing is a mere 2-megapixel offering that only manages 720p and misses the wide-angle lens and selfie flash that is featured on the DTEK50.
