Price Drop on the Samsung Galaxy A3 and Galaxy A5

Both Galaxy A handsets offer a full metal unibody construction, giving a high end feel. The general look and shape of both handsets are the same, but the differences lie in their weight and dimensions. The Samsung Galaxy A3 measures in at 130.1 x 65.5 x 6.9mm and 110.3g vs the Samsung Galaxy A5 at 139.3 x 69.7 x 6.7mm and 123g. When handling the handsets, the difference in thickness and weight is not noticeably obvious, but the Galaxy A5 is clearly the larger handset overall.

Matching its larger framework, the Samsung Galaxy A5 also offers a larger screen at 5.0-inch 720*1280 294ppi, whilst the Samsung Galaxy A3 offers a 4.5-inch touchscreen display with 540*960 245ppi. The A5 also offers a higher pixel density to warrant the larger price tag, with 294 pixels per inch compared to just 245 pixels per inch on the Galaxy A3. Both screens are, however, Super AMOLED displays offering a rich and vibrant experience, making the choice of handset purely personal upon whether you prefer a smaller feel or a larger screen.

Both handsets run on a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor, however the A5 offers twice the RAM (at 2GB RAM vs the A3’s 1GB). The extra 1GB RAM enables the Galaxy A5 to cope with multi-tasking a lot better, especially as the Snapdragon 410 is a 64-bit chip. Android 4.4 KitKat does feature on both handsets, along with 4G connectivity, Wi-Fi,16GB of built in storage along with a microSD card slot for cards of up to 64GB. Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC.

When it comes to the cameras on the handset, the price difference is more noticable. Whilst the Samsung Galaxy A3 provides a reasonable 8 Megapixel rear 1080p at 30fps camera, the Samsung Galaxy A5 apart is the 13 megapixel rear 1080p@30fps camera. Both handsets do offers an LED flash, 1080p video capabilities at 30fps and both have 5 megapixel wide-angle front-facing cameras, making them an excellent choice for those who love to take selfies.
