Will the Apple iPhone 8 offer a 521 ppi display?

Thursday, April 27th, 2017

KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has offered a new report on the upcoming  iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, expected later this year.

Kuo claims that iPhone 8 will offer a 521ppi pixel density, which is almost twice the 321ppi offering of the iPhone 7.  The display is also likely to feature a brilliant resolution of 2436 x 1125 pixels, compared to 1334 x 750 pixels in iPhone 7′s IPS HD display screen.

The report suggests that the iPhone 8 device will also adopt a new function area at the bottom the display, which is possible due to the near bezel-less design and increase in screen size to 5.8-inch.

This new function area is likely to replace the current Home button and Touch ID, meaning  Apple is likely to replace the Touch ID functionality with new biometric technologies to ensure specs don’t suffer.

Along side the new function area, there may also be a ratio change along with the iPhone update. Kuo reports a predicted long display screen with a ratio close to 21:9 compared to the 16:9 aspect ratio of the current handsets.

Saturday, April 8th, 2017

A new iOS app for making and sharing fun videos with text, effects, graphics, and more, Clips is Apple’s first crack at creating a video editor for your social networking needs. Combining the editing features of iMovies, with the addictive nature of social networking, Clips is one to watch.

Check out CNET’s how to explanation video for further info;

How to use Clips:

Getting started is simple and quick. Just hold the red button to record video on the spot, or grab a video clip or photo from anywhere in your library. Pinch and drag while recording to smoothly zoom and pan across images for that extra touch of drama — or comedy.

Live Titles let you easily create animated captions and titles — just by talking. Simply speak while recording, and text automatically appears onscreen, perfectly synced with your voice. Choose from different styles and tap any title to adjust text and punctuation

Give your videos personality with a few taps. Pick a filter that flatters. Add animated graphics and emoji. Use full‑screen posters with backgrounds to help tell your story. And set the mood with dozens of music tracks that instantly and intelligently adjust to match the length of your video.

Clips recognizes who’s in your video and who you share with most often, then presents these people as suggestions for sharing. Just tap a name to send your video using Messages.

iPhone 8 to get rid of Home button and offer 3D Cameras?

Friday, April 7th, 2017

Ever since the release of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, there have been rumours circulating about the improvements Apple will make to their iPhone 8 model.

Even with six months left until release, suggestions are pointing at a major overhaul – not just in the name (with Apple rumoured to skip the 7s pattern), but also with some iconic Apple design features.

@VenyaGeskin1, who accurately leaked the Samsung Galaxy S8 ahead of its announcement, has leaked some sketches of the iPhone 8 outlining the modifications.

iPhone 8

Whilst there are no annotations or accompanying notes, the sketches do hint at an all screen front design, with no physical home button. This leaves us anticipating a fingerprint scanner built into the display. The additional sensors above the display also suggest that an iris scanner could be adding an extra security level to the device.

The rear cameras are also repositioned, with vertical line up rather than the horizontal of the 7 Plus, suggesting a 3D camera may be on the cards.

7 Reasons to love the Apple iPhone 7 (Product) RED

Tuesday, March 28th, 2017

Apple teamed up with Bono’s charity Red to make it easy for people and businesses to join the fight against deadly virus, by purchasing their special edition Apple iPhone 7 Red or Apple iPhone 7 Plus Red.

AIDS has killed more than 35 million people since its discovery in 1981. More than 37 million people are living with HIV, and mothers continue to pass the virus in startling numbers to their children. Life-saving anti-retroviral treatments cost as little as 30 cents a day, yet most living with HIV won’t see medicine in their lifetime.

Screen Shot 2017-03-21 at 15.52.25

If that’s not enough of a reason to support Apple with their plight, read on:

1. The Apple iPhone 7 (PRODUCT)RED saves lives:

Apple CEO Tim Cook last year spoke passionately about the company’s support for (PRODUCT)RED: “Ten years ago there were 1,200 babies being born a day with HIV, and that’s now dropped to 400. So there’s been a lot of progress but we still have work to do to get to an AIDS-free generation by 2020, though we are on target, it’s within our sights.”

2. When you buy (PRODUCT)RED™ Apple send a contribution to the Global Fund.

The handset is priced the same as the other colours of iPhone, but Apple will send a percentage of the profits to Global Fund at no extra cost to you. Apple have raised $130 million across the entirety of its ten-year partnership with (RED) for the Global Fund, who uses 100% of this money to finance HIV/AIDS programmes. The contribution helps people affected by HIV in Ghana, Lesotho, Rwanda, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Kenya and Zambia.

3. The Beautiful New Red Finish

The vibrant red aluminium finish has been chosen as a recognition of more than 10 years of partnership between Apple and (RED).  The handsets offer a pretty distinct sharp red back in a very bright but matte finish, with equally bright white front bezels. The rear Apple logo retains its reflective silver colour for a high end finish.

4.  Buy a piece of history

The Special Edition Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in (Product) Red is the first Red iPhone yet, making it a good investment for collectors and tech enthusiasts alike. Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO; “The introduction of this special edition iPhone in a gorgeous red finish is our biggest (PRODUCT)RED offering to date in celebration of our partnership with (RED), and we can’t wait to get it into customers’ hands.”

5. Top End Specs

Both the iPhone 7 Red and iPhone 7 Plus Red feature the most popular camera in the world with advanced camera systems that shoot incredible photos and videos day or night, more power and performance with the best battery life ever in an iPhone, in a water and dust resistant design. iOS 10 brings an fun, animated ways to communicate in Messages, new ways to use Siri with your favorite apps, beautifully redesigned Maps, Photos, Apple Music and News, and the Home app, which lets you simply and securely set up, manage and control your home all in one place.

6. Large Memory Options

The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus (PRODUCT)RED Special Edition will be available in 128GB and 256GB models, enough to store all of your favourite tunes, movies and photographs on the go.

7. Be a part of something huge

“Apple is the world’s largest corporate donor to the Global Fund, contributing more than $130 million as part of its partnership with (RED),” said Deborah Dugan, (RED)’s ceo, in a statement. “Combining the global reach of the world’s most loved smartphone with our efforts to provide access to life-saving ARV medication in sub-Saharan Africa, customers now have a remarkable opportunity to make a difference and contribute to the Global Fund through the purchase of this new beautiful (PRODUCT)RED iPhone.”

Apple highlight Indie Gamers in their App Store for the first time

Monday, March 20th, 2017
It’s one of the hardest game of all for indie developers; getting noticed within the sea of apps available on Apple’s App Store.

Going up against multi- billion dollar companies that have the budget to be seen, may seem like an impossible task but this week Apple have given the indies some love with their new feature.

Apple have started highlighting indie gamer’s content in a dedicated section within the store.  “Celebrating Indie Games” is a hub that showcases new releases from independent game developers selected by the App Store’s Editorial team.

Screen Shot 2017-03-20 at 13.49.36

The selections were chosen by the App Store’s Editorial team, and include a mix of both paid and free-to-play titles. These offerings are organised into appealing categories including “incredible sound design” or “unforgettable stories.”

According to a recent App Store tweet the indie gamers hub will be a permanent feature, making a positive impact on the discoverability of new developer’s work.
