Shot on an iPhone XS: Delivering some of the best Mobile Photography on the Market.

Tuesday, September 18th, 2018

Proving one of the most popular phone cameras on the market, last years iPhone X delivered some of the best photographic results when shooting in slow motions, 4k and suing time lapse.

Whilst the iPhone XS may look like it doesn’t offer a huge leap when compared to the iPhone X, the specifications of the lenses and sensors have proven to up the ante quite significantly.

Just like iPhone X, the new iPhone XS lineup features two 12 MP cameras, but the iPhone XS’ main camera has 1.4µm pixels, up from 1.22µm in the iPhone X and on par with the Google Pixel 2. When you pair this with the super fast A12 Bionic chip, Apples new image single processor and the ‘Smart HDR’ (that combines the best parts of multiple photos taken at different exposures into a single image in a similar way to Google’s HDR+) the quality of your shot is beyond belief. The iPhone XS also offers twice as many Focus Pixels, improved low-light performance and a better bokeh for your portraits.

Video capturing has also taken a leap for improvements, as seen in Apple’s “first look” video shot on the iPhone XS within which Apple demonstrates what its new camera is capable of when shooting in slo-mo, 4K, and time-lapse.

Running a series of experiments with a range of materials this video shows the beauty that can be captured on this latest piece of tech. Even if the price tag is rising year on year, the upgrade in photography alone makes it well worth the cost.

iPhone X awarded ‘Best Smartphone Display Ever’ by Displaymate

Wednesday, January 3rd, 2018

The tenth anniversary iPhone has taken the mobile market by storm, thanks to the innovative upgrades made by Apple. The first improvement you’ll notice as you pick up the new device is the stunning advancement in the design and specification of the display. These advancements are so good that the iPhone X has received the accolade of ‘best ever smartphone display’ as tested by Displaymate (who provide the industry standard for testing, evaluating and comparing all types of displays and display technologies.)

Housing a 5.8-inch OLED display that is, quite frankly, a wonder to behold and far surpasses the screens of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus for many reasons. Here’s just a few as outlined by Displaymate’s recent shootout:

  • Taller height to width Aspect Ratio of 19.5 : 9 = 2.17, which is 22% larger than the 16 : 9 = 1.78 on most Smartphones
  • The dual combination of high Screen Brightness and low Screen Reflectance for screen readability, picture quality, and color accuracy in ambient light.
  • iPhone X has a new 2.5K Higher Resolution Full HD+ display with 2436×1125 pixels and 458 pixels per inch, with 2.7 Mega Pixels, 32% more than an HDTV
  • A Super Dim Setting that allows the Maximum Screen Brightness to be set all the way down to just 2 cd/m2 (nits) using the Brightness Slider
  • Highest Absolute Color Accuracy for any display  (0.9 JNCD) which is Visually Indistinguishable From Perfect.
  • Highest Full Screen Brightness for OLED Smartphones  (634 nits).
  • Highest Full Screen Contrast Rating in Ambient Light  (141).
  • Highest Contrast Ratio  (Infinite).
  • Lowest Screen Reflectance  (4.5 percent).
  •  Smallest Brightness Variation with Viewing Angle  (22 percent)

Other features for top quality screen viewing include:

  • IP67 water resistant (up to 1 meter (3 feet) of water for up to half an hour) allows you to view your display in wet conditions including baths, showers or outdoors in the rain.
  • The iPhone X can be used with Polarized Sunglasses in both the Portrait and Landscape orientations unlike many LCDs, which generally work in only one of the two orientations.
  • The iPhone X Cover Glass is 50% stronger compared to iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, which provides higher resistance to breakage.

11 Surprising Facts about the iPhone X

Friday, October 27th, 2017

The countdown to the iPhone X release is soon coming to an end and we could not be more excited.

Here’s 11 facts about the iPhone X to keep you entertained during the pre-order period:

1. The screen has been dubbed a ‘Super Retina Display’. It’s a 1125×2436 OLED display allegedly made by Samsung.

2. The new iPhone allows for better compression and booting thanks to the HEIF(high-efficiency image format) and HEVC (high-efficiency video compression) formats support.

3. It’s almost all screen thanks to the removal of the home button and the 5.8in display that fills the entire front of the phone right up to the rounded edges of the slimline bezel.

4. At an eye pleasing 2436 x 1125 resolution, the first ever “Super Retina” display allows for a pixel density of 458ppi, making the screen a beautiful delight to use.

5. The Face ID has taken over the job of the fingerprint scanner, using dot protector to map thousands of individual points around your face for a higher level biometric security layer. Apple have also made this feature more secure and consistent compared to their completion with a 7MP camera, secondary infra-red camera and a flood illuminator for accurate tracking when you’re in the dark.

6. The faster autofocus, more realistic HDR photos, and better pixel processing accumulate to create a better dual camera experience than any we’ve seen before.

7. Running on Apple’s new A11 “Bionic” chip with a new six-core architecture and another four cores for improved energy efficiency, the iPhone X’s increase in performance is extremely noticeable.

8. As with the iPhone 7 onwards, there’s no headphone jack. But you will receive in ear headphones with a lightning port adapter as standard in the box.

Fancy an added extra to your listening experience? Check out the wireless Apple AirPods that are also compatible with the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X.

9. The TrueDepth camera also delivers the ever entertaining Animojis that allow users to send animated emojis based on their own changing facial expressions.

10. The iPhone X will be the first Apple device to offer fast charging; you’ll be able to get 50% in 30 minutes.

11. Whilst the older iPhones had built-in support for the U.S. military-created GPS network, the new device will support Galileo, Europe’s new satellite system, which came fully online in late 2016.

Leaked: iPhone X RAM and Battery Size

Wednesday, September 27th, 2017

It’s no secret that Apple have a history of keeping finer details close to their chest and it seems the tech giant are not keen to advertise the RAM and battery size of their devices within their spec sheets.

Whilst the specification sheet for the iPhone X offers in depth details, the RAM and precise battery size of the device is omitted, instead offering talk time durations and battery use estimations.

Steve Hemmerstoffer (Tech leaker: @stagueve /@OnLeaks‏) shared Technology’s Telecommunication Equipment Certification Center (TENAA) documentation that outlines the finer details of the iPhone X’s specification sheet.

Whilst the 2,716mAh battery isn’t as impressive as the 3,000 mAh offering of the Samsung Galaxy S8, it is larger than the iPhone 8 Plus, offering a significant boost in usage times. The RAM, however, is a different story, with 3GB of RAM matching the offering on the iPhone 8 Plus and indeed the iPhone 7 Plus.

Whilst the iPhone X offers little in the way of RAM upgrades from its predecessors, it leaps ahead in terms of innovative tech features including the new biometric security system, Animoji entertainment and TrueDepth camera system. The iPhone X’s A11 Bionic chipset is also clocked at 2.4GHz on the leaked documentation, providing a powerful user experience.

Face ID Explained

Monday, September 25th, 2017

Four years after making the  revolutionary finger print sensors mainstream, Apple are taking biometric security up a notch with Face ID.

What is Face ID?

Apple’s advanced facial recognition system uses VCSEL (vertical-cavity surface-emitting) laser diodes and machine learning.  The  TrueDepth camera system in the notch (the area at the top of the iPhone X) is comprised of several components: a flood illuminator, IR camera and a dot projector alongside the standard elements.  It projects and analyses more than 30,000 invisible dots to create a precise depth map of your face.

In basic terms, it means that you can unlock your iPhone X by simply looking at the device. Apple claims that it’s incredibly accurate, and that only 1 in 1,000,000 faces will be able to unlock your iPhone, and the device will even recognise you with or without your glasses/hat.

What do you use Face ID for?

Face ID offers so much more than simply unlocking your phone with just a look. You’ll also be able to approve Apple Pay transactions with your face and mimic your facial expressions with Apple’s Amimoji in real time and more.

Apple have also confirmed that third-party developers will be able to make use of the Face ID technology in their apps. Watch out for iPhone X updates on Snapchat, Instagram and many more of your favourite apps.
