IRIS Scanners are the Future of banking

Tuesday, August 22nd, 2017

Over 20 million Brits are now banking online, with Mobile phones being the device of choice for managing your money. As our reliance on online banking has increased, so too has the need for higher security.

Mobiles started off with 4 digit PIN codes and progressed to the embedded fingerprint scanners prevalent in most devices on the market. Manufactures are now developing security measures further, with the current IRIS scanning technology and facial recognition rumoured to be appearing on the iPhone 8 next month. The biometrics used in Iris scanners contains 266 unique characteristics compared to the fingerprint’s 60, allowing it to offer ”an unparalleled level of cyber security.”

A report from the Telegraph has stated that TSB will be the first bank in Europe to allow its mobile customers to unlock their account using a mobile iris scanner.

From September, TSB customers who own a Samsung Galaxy S8 or Samsung Galaxy S8+ will be able to simply look at their phones to securely access their account.

“As well as a more customer-friendly approach to identification, iris recognition is also the most secure method of authentication available today. We want our mobile app customers to continue to have a fast, easy-to-use experience; iris recognition delivers that and, when combined with our other security measures, an unparalleled level of cybersecurity.” - Carlos Abarca, TSB’s chief information officer.

Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ Sales Impress

Tuesday, April 11th, 2017

Impressive pre-order sales figures for the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ suggest that last year’s Note 7 crisis has had little to no negative impact on consumer’s confidence in Samsung.

s8blog

Samsung have reported “strong double digit growth” for  pre-orders of its new Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ devices, outselling their predecessors even at the higher prices. Reports also show more pre-order customers users are choosing the larger (and more expensive) 6.2-inch S8+ over its 5.8-inch counterpart.

A spokesperson at Samsung continued to state that “the majority of consumers have been selecting the Galaxy S8+, with Midnight Black being the preferred color of choice.”

Samsung announced the devices in their self organised event in New York, snubbing Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Whilst Samsung hasn’t published specific sales figures, the sales growth comes as a welcome relief for the South Korean company.

Samsung’s AI explained: What is Bixby?

Tuesday, April 4th, 2017

Bixby is Samsung’s new artificial intelligence system, which is making its debut on the newly announced Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8+.

Put simply, Bixby is Samsung’s a digital assistant, comparable to Apple’s Siri (for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus) and Google’s Assistant (on the Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL).

Bixby is predominantly a voice-controlled Artificial Intelligence, designed to make device interaction easier by providing a way to interact with your phone without using the touchscreen. The tech listens to your voice, interprets the information and returns the results with a contextual awareness that removes the need from physical input from yourself.

Samsung outlined the three underlying principles of Bixby:

  1. Bixby is a complete solution
  2. Bixby is contextually aware
  3. Bixby understands natural language

Bixby gets smarter and more intuitive with every use, and analyses photos, data and information without you having to type a single word. The Samsung AI evolves as it learns your routine, providing you with the right content when you need it, whilst providing you with information on the things around you using the camera app.

Promising to remove everyday barriers, Samsung’s Bixby is a technology that makes life easier.

Check out Samsung’s official introduction to the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ to learn more about Bixby and the devices as a whole:

Here’s what the media has to say about the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+

Tuesday, April 4th, 2017

With news that the BlackBerry KEYone release has been pushed back to early May, the focus is firmly placed on Samsung’s S8 and S8+ this April.

Here’s what media teams have today about the latest flagship handsets from the South Korean tech giant:

…It’s very hard to fault the Samsung Galaxy S8. It’s fast, attractive and has the biggest screen possible in a very compact body. – TechRadar

The Samsung Galaxy S8 is simply gorgeous. Gone is the S7′s flat screen, and in its place is a tall, narrow drink of water with two curved sides. – CNET

From what I’ve seen so far, the Galaxy S8 is an absolute stunner of a smartphone. It looks drop-dead gorgeous even before you turn on the screen, has one of the best-looking displays I’ve seen, and is one of the most powerful phones around.

It’s every bit the flagship patient Samsung fans have been waiting for. - Stuff

This phone makes our iPhone 7 Plus look somewhat aged. Until you see it up against some of the other handsets from 2016, it really doesn’t hit home quite how brilliant it is. Although it comes at a price, you’ll love it. We want one! - T3
