Battle of the larger Displays: iPhone 7 Plus VS Samsung Galaxy S8+

Arguably the best (and largest) handsets released by Apple and Samsung, the Samsung Galaxy S8+ and iPhone 7 Plus are taking the phablet world by storm.

But if you’re looking for a larger device which offers the best display for your money. We find out:

Samsung Galaxy S8+:

The Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus offers a huge 6.2-inch display that, thanks to the almost bezel-less design,  doesn’t make the actual dimensions of the device much larger than the standard S8 offering. The 6.2-inch screen offers a new 18.5:9 aspect ratio (88% screen-to-body ratio) and HDR. The immersive curved AMOLED panel, branded an Infinity Display, tops at Quad HD and defaults to 1080p and certainly lives up to the hype.

Split-screen multitasking feels spacious and you can  can choose Smart Cropping (either fill the entire extra-wide screen or Fit to Screen with black side bars).

The handy and enhanced Always-on Display provides a constant display of  the time, date, battery life and notification icons.

Apple iPhone 7 Plus:

The iPhone 7 Plus continues on Apple’s “Retina” display path. Offering a better resolution than the standard iPhone 7, the 7 Plus hits the 1080p mark. Whilst the iPhone 7 Plus doesn’t offer the sharper Quad HD of the S8+, the 5.5in LCD display offers great colour and contrast, loads of brightness, and excellent viewing angles.

The resolution may not be the highest we’ve seen, but it does excel with a widest colour gamut. Using something called DCI P3, the display offers a range of colours used by movie makers that encompasses a larger spectrum for more realistic and diverse tones.  The more realistic visuals helps when using the expansive screen as a viewfinder for the dual-camera lenses on the back of the 7 Plus.
