Samsung’s AI explained: What is Bixby?

Bixby is Samsung’s new artificial intelligence system, which is making its debut on the newly announced Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8+.

Put simply, Bixby is Samsung’s a digital assistant, comparable to Apple’s Siri (for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus) and Google’s Assistant (on the Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL).

Bixby is predominantly a voice-controlled Artificial Intelligence, designed to make device interaction easier by providing a way to interact with your phone without using the touchscreen. The tech listens to your voice, interprets the information and returns the results with a contextual awareness that removes the need from physical input from yourself.

Samsung outlined the three underlying principles of Bixby:

  1. Bixby is a complete solution
  2. Bixby is contextually aware
  3. Bixby understands natural language

Bixby gets smarter and more intuitive with every use, and analyses photos, data and information without you having to type a single word. The Samsung AI evolves as it learns your routine, providing you with the right content when you need it, whilst providing you with information on the things around you using the camera app.

Promising to remove everyday barriers, Samsung’s Bixby is a technology that makes life easier.
