Sustainability in the Olympics

Tuesday, July 27th, 2021

0- olymp gt

After a year long delay, the Summer Olympics are here! This year the games are held in Tokyo and several surrounding cities in Japan, including Fukushima and Yokohama. The Summer Olympics officially began July 23 with the opening ceremony and end August 8 with the closing ceremony. The Olympics typically draw together more than 11,000 athletes and 25,000 journalists from more than 200 countries. This year, the Summer Games are rumored to be unlike ever before. Tokyo has put an emphasis on sustainability, turning an eye to the telecommunications and electronics industries.

The Unique Medal Design of the Olympics

But what does the telecommunications industry have to do with the Olympics? This year, the medals in Tokyo are made from recycled cellphones and other electronics, helping to combat e-waste pollution and global warming. Recycling has been a key part of the sustainability efforts of the delayed Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, with both the medals and podium being made from used materials.

The Rise of E-Waste Pollution

This public display of sustainability is incredibly important because it brings the e-waste epidemic to the public eye. The volume of e-waste has been rising significantly over the past ten years. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), it is estimated that between 20 and 50 million tons of e-waste gets generated worldwide annually. In that, there are roughly 416,000 cellphones disposed of each day. This not only pollutes the earth but also pollutes the surrounding air and water with toxicity. The biggest thing we can do to limit e-waste is to properly recycle or refurnish or technology.

Recycle with Unlocked Mobiles

Our team at Unlocked Mobiles offers a Recycle Your Phone feature, where you trade in your used phones in an eco-friendly way and make a profit while doing so! We are committed to refurbishing used phones to create a more sustainable future for the quickly-changing tech industry. iPhone 11 Pro vs iPhone 12 Pro: What should you buy?

Tuesday, January 26th, 2021

gsmarena_022

If you’re looking to upgrade to Apple’s best recent iPhones, you’re probably looking at the recent iPhone Pros. Now the real question is, how do you decide between the iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 11 Pro? And is there actually a difference? Here’s a clear and easy breakdown to help you decide what phone is the best for you.

Price
Money makes the world go around. Getting a new iPhone is an investment so let’s break down what you’ll pay for each phone. The iPhone 12 Pro starts at £999 for 128GB of storage. Meanwhile, the iPhone 11 Pro started at £1,049 for 64 GB when it launched in 2019 but it can be picked up right here on Unlocked Mobiles for £999. Best bang for your buck? Buying on Unlocked Mobiles saves you money on both phones and offers Sim Freedom to maximize your savings!

Design
There wasn’t any huge visual design changes between these two models. The iPhone 12 Pro features a 6.1inch display in a fairly compact design that measures 146mm x 71.5mm x .29mm and weighs 189 grams. While the iPhone 11 Pro offers a 5.8inch display in a handset that measures 144mm x 71.4mm x .32mm and weighs in at 188 grams. The real difference lies in durability. Unlike the iPhone 11 Pro, the iPhone 12 Pro offers a Ceramic Shield front with 4x better drop performance. It is also has a deeper maximum depth in splash, water, and dust resistance. Care more about battery life? The iPhone 11 Pro has a slightly longer video playback life, while the audio playback life is identical in both phones. Our Vote? The iPhone 12 Pro is the clear design winner in measuring durability and resistance. You no longer need to be nervous about those beach days!

Display
The OLED displays on the iPhone 12 Pro (6.1inch ) and the iPhone 11 Pro (5.8inch) are stunning. We’re talking, your grandpa will think he’s looking out a window kind of stunning. The phone’s brightness, colour, and photo accuracy is the best you’ll find on any phone. The displays are identical across the board from colour quality, to brightness, to contrast ratio. The main difference is the iPhone 12 Pro has a slightly higher pixel resolution. No wrong choice here. The handsets are very similar but hit up the iPhone 12 Pro if you want the most modern and innovative image.

Camera
But what if your amateur Instagram photography business is taking off and you need to come through with quality pictures? It’s no secret that Apple has been killing it with their phone cameras. Both the iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 11 Pro have a triple 12MP camera system with Ultra Wide, Wide, and Telephoto lenses. Not to mention, both phones record Dolby Vision video in 4K for stunningly colorful footage. What about photography at night? If you’re looking to shoot in the dark, the iPhone 12 Pro is the one for you. The Wide Camera has an f/1.6 aperture. This allows 27% more light than the iPhone 11 Pro for better low light photos and videos. The iPhone 12 Pro also introduces Night Mode Portraits to maximize night mode quality. Both phones will capture masterpieces but if you’re looking to the capture adventures under the night sky, you have to go with the iPhone 12 Pro.

Summary
So there you have it! There’s no wrong choice. The iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 11 Pro are both sleek, high-speed devices that excel industry-wide in display quality, performance and photography. If you want my two cents, I’d go with the iPhone 12 Pro for the best durability, photography, and the most powerful chip in a smartphone. You can get both phones on Unlocked Mobiles today for sim freedom, and fast delivery!

Apple iPhone 8 Dates, Pricing and Edge to Edge display

Tuesday, September 5th, 2017

The date is in the diary, 12th September is when all of the rumours will either be confirmed or dispelled as the 10th anniversary iPhone is finally launched.

Here’s the roundup of the latest forecasts for the iPhone 8.

When and where will it launch?

Tuesday, September 12 at 10am PT (17:00 GMT) at the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino, California.

When will it be released for purchase?

We are expecting a late September/Early October release date – TBC at the launch event.

How much will it cost?

Current predictions suggest we could be spending around £900 for the newest device.

What’s the info on the Edge to Edge display?

Screen Shot 2017-09-04 at 16.17.51  An icon depicting the front design of the iPhone 8 was leaked by Apple themselves via the HomePod’s firmware. An image of this design shoes the loss of the Home button, a screen running almost edge to edge, a very slim bezel of just 4mm on each side and points towards face recognition technology.

Mobile Reporter Benjamin Geskin also tweeted alleged glass to be used on the iPhone 8, which backs up the design of the HomePod icon.

Will the iPhone 7 dual camera produce more detailed photographs?

Monday, August 29th, 2016

It’s no secret that Apple are likely to release at least two new smartphones in September, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7s, maybe an iPhone 7 Pro as well.

New rumours suggest that the iPhone 7 handsets may house dual cameras. A source from Bloomberg suggest that these dual cameras will provide a brighter, more detailed photograph as each lens will come with its own sensor. Therefore, each single photo will be a composite of two images captured at the same time.

New iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C Now Available

Wednesday, October 9th, 2013

Apple has launched the iPhone 5c alongside the iPhone 5s making which model to buy quite a difficult decision to make.

The 5s and the 5c look quite different in that the iPhone 5c is made from brightly coloured polycarbonate whilst the 5s arrives in three different metal finishes, namely space grey, gold and silver.  The 5c with its plastic casing and steel endoskeleton is sturdy but the 5s has a luxury feel.

All the dimensions of these phones are similar to previous versions and ports, switches and grilles are also set in a similar location to previous iPhones.  The 5c is 20g heavier than the 5s and is 1.4 mm thicker. The 4 inch screen is the same on both models and is easily readable even in bright sunlight. Both devices have a 640 s 1,136 retina-class display screen giving a 326ppi pixel density.

The 5s arrives with fingerprint sensor which is linked to the home button, enabling you to unlock the phone, browse the web or listen to music. Just place your finger on the home button and once registered the phone will conveniently unlock.

Both phones have an 8 megapixel rear camera with a 1.2 megapixel front camera. The iPhone 5s’s rear camera has a 15% larger sensor than that of the 5c. It also has a wider aperture of f/2.2 as opposed to the f/2.4 of the 5c. This should provide sharper images and with the 5s having a much improved flash, indoor snaps should be sharper. The iPhone 5s has a dual LED True Tone flash, a sapphire crystal lens cover and has Burst mode. This allows you to take 10 images per second allowing you to pick the best.  Both phones have 1080p video capture. The 5s however, boasts a  Slo-mo option which allows you to shoot 720p video at 120fps, thus allowing you to capture the best of any special moments.

The 5c has a 32-bit 1.3GHz dual-core Apple A6 CPU whilst the 5s features a 64-bit processor with dual-core 1.6GHz Apple A7. Both devices have 1GB of RAM and have 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0.

Both devices arrive with iOS 7 and with the 5s having a 64-bit operating system this should make the system twice as fast. Both phones should provide up to 10 hours of talk time and up to 250 hours on standby. With up to 10 hours on Wi-Fi and 10 hours of video playback you can also expect up to 40 hours of audio playback.

The iPhone 5s, with its fingerprint recognition sensor and 64-bit A 7 processor is by far the better phone of the two. The 5s is faster, has a better camera and is lighter than the 5c. The 5s has a more luxurious feel than the plastic coated 5c but if you like colour in your life then the iPhone 5c is the one for you. Though neither device is cheap and if you want the best, then the more expensive 5s is the phone for you.

Both the Apple iPhone 5s and the Apple iPhone 5c are available to order from Unlocked Mobiles.
