Will we ever see the Samsung Galaxy Fold? We hope so.

Monday, May 13th, 2019

A little under three months ago a few members of the Unlocked Mobiles team were in attendance at the Samsung event in San Francisco, where Samsung unveiled the future in smartphones, well at least we thought so, with the Samsung Galaxy Fold. The hall was filled with excitement, everyone thought that this was an industry changer and we were expecting a new evolution in handheld devices.

After the announcements, we all made our way through the exhibition area to the sample rooms on either side of the venue, we were all excited to see the amazing new device. However, there was one strange question by everyone at this event when we got to the display stands – just why is the Galaxy Fold not on display? Why would there be an announcement for a product and then not have it to show the people who were invited. If there was an indication that Samsung were not ready to showcase this device then this was it. A week later at MWC in Barcelona, we were greeted with exactly the same situation. However, we had faith in Samsung, even after the Note issues in the past, surely they would not make a similar mistake? Well, it appears to have happened again. The lucky people (press and influences that haven’t paid and would have to return the initial samples) who got to use the device before general sale started to receive their sample units and gradually the devices became unusable and failed.

As of writing this post, we are still unsure at to whether the Fold will be released. We hope it does. We hope it will work and we hope it will make way for a new array of amazing devices from Samsung and other OEM manufacturers. Be confident that if it is released, Unlocked Mobiles will stock the Samsung Galaxy Fold Sim Free, so register your interest on our product page – you never know – it may be the best phone ever released after all!

Could this be the next Galaxy Fold? Samsung hint at wearable Smartphone for your wrists.

Wednesday, March 13th, 2019

Less than a month from one of the most exciting launches in mobile history (Samsung’s Galaxy Fold), the tech giant are outdoing themselves, dropping hints of smartphones that look like they’re straight out of science fiction novels.

samsung bendable wrist smartphone

The South Korea-based smartphone giant is taking malleable displays to a whole new level, promoting their ambitions for bendable phone displays.

A patent filed by Samsung last year with the World Intellectual Property Organisation was published a few days ago, depicting displays that can be worn around the wrist, allowing a smartphone to replace the smartwatch as an all in one alternative.

According to the filings, the smartphone will be fitted with magnets at either end to allow the device to keep its shape when curved, and the camera will be on one side of a sliding mechanism.

Tech Blog LetsGoDigital, have created renders based on the patent, suggesting the rear of the bendable smartphone will be fitted with flexible elastic plates constructed from stainless steel. The movement of these plates will come from a number of small links to give the phone its ability to bend.

Samsung to bring out a foldable smartphone in the next few months.

Sunday, February 3rd, 2019

At their developer conference late last year, Samsung announced the first details about its foldable phone. The tech giant teased the audience, revealing that the screen technology will be called the Samsung Infinity Flex Display and then quickly dimmed the lights to cloak the rest of the news in mystery.

Samsung did provide a slither of deals about the phone’s displays and user interface before leaving us in the dark. They’ve hinted that the folding flagship will have two displays: a long 4.5-inch 840 x 1960 screen on the outside of the device, and a foldable 7.3-inch interior display.

Rumoured to be called the Samsung Galaxy X or Galaxy F, the foldable flagship from Samsung will probably want to equip the phone with a large battery to go with the large display. SamMobile reported Samsung would begin producing flexible batteries with capacities ranging from 3,000mAh to 6,000mAh to support the developments in display technology.

We’ve already seen a patent request from Samsung back in 2016 that may show what the user interface will look like on the new device. filed by Samsung in South Korea the patent was named ‘Electronic Device Comprising Multiple Display and Method for Controlling Thereof‘. It details the software side of how a potential foldable phone launched by the company could work.

Speculation is hot that Samsung’s foldable smartphone could be the next addition to the Galaxy family and billboards erected in Paris suggest we’re likely to see the final product as early as Feb 20th.

Coinciding with MWC in February we’re expecting to find out all the details for the foldable Samsung, alongside the release of the company’s Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus device.

Register your details for the foldable Samsung device today to be the first in line to preorder the handset.

Motorola are bringing the Razr back and it’s going to have a foldable display.

Friday, February 1st, 2019

The foldable handset hype has been circulating for some years now. With one foldable handset already on the market to buy and an array of others lined up for this year, it looks to be that a foldable phone isn’t a far-off concept any longer.

One manufacturer joining the race to market a foldable screen design is Motorola, with hints suggesting that their iconic Razr design could be the basis for their foldable flagship. With its unique fashionable clamshell design, Razr became identified as a “fashion” product and an iconic cell phone in the late 2000s. Making a major impact on the market, the Razr was one of the best selling flip phones, so it doesn’t surprise us that this is Motorola’s angle into the fierce fight for the top spot in foldable for 2019.

2018 saw Motorola’s owner Lenovo showcased some innovate bendable display technology. At MWC 2018 we also saw Lenovo’s CEO hint that they are indeed bringing Moto Razr back. He went on to suggest that Motorola’s focus would be on foldable smartphone technology in the coming months. Put the two together and it’s no surprise that the internet is being flooded with Motorola Foldable Razr render.

One of which is from Tech Configurations who have created a Motorola RAZR V4 concept showcasing 3 display design one 6inch primary fordable display, one 2.5inch exterior display to use in the folded model, and a 0.75inch multipurpose display with an integrated fingerprint scanner. They’re suggesting that the small display can also adapt to the user interface and apps providing shortcuts to most important functions. Like in the messaging application the small display would show the smiley for easy access.

The speculation of a foldable razor has been supported by a recent report published in the The Wall Street Journal. The article confirmed that Lenovo’s foldable screen will be the tech housed in the revived Razr and we should expect to see a price tag of roughly $1,500.

Further support for the rumoured foldable design comes in the form of patent designs that were filed on December 17th 2018 and shows a device with a folding screen on the inside, alongside a second smaller screen on the outside.
