Monday, November 14th, 2016

iOS 10 saw some major overhaul in the iMessage app, with stickers, bubble effects and screen effects.

Today we’re looking at  Screen Effects, which are messages that take over the entire screen with an animation and sound.

Apple have initially launched five screen effects to add a little something to your messages:

  • Balloons: An array of colourful balloons float up your the screen.
  • Confetti: A blast of confetti falls from the top of the screen.
  • Lasers: Disco lasers scan up and down, emanating from behind the text bubble.
  • Fireworks: A series of colourful firework blasts across your device
  • Shooting Star: The nighttime sky lights up across the screen.

To add these to your messages, simply write a message, then use Force Touch (long-press) on the send button until the Bubble Effect screen is activated. Then, tap on the Screen button at the top of the screen. Scroll across to view each screen effect, selecting your favourite to add.

iOS10 Beta Tried and Tested: Top 5 Improvements

Monday, July 11th, 2016

Apples iOS 10 public beta is now live, with interesting new updates and features.

Before you do download it, remember it is just a beta so some of your favourite apps may be buggy. So if you’re not quite ready to test out the new OS, check out our review of the top 5 updates below:

iOS 10
1. Apple Music:
In Apple’s iOS 10 beta, the redesigned Apple Music app shines.  Menus are cleaner, so it’s easier to search for songs or artists. the old cluttered interface has been streamlined, with a default view of your library of music.
2. Photos and Memories album:

The addition of face recognition, on your iOS device prompts you to name the faces that it’s recognised, creating dynamic libraries for each person. The new Memories album also sorts your photos based on date and location making the new OS a more organised way to store and enjoy your photos and Videos.

3. Raise to Wake:
A feature that we’ve seen on Android for a while, Raise to wake has finally arrived on iOS.

4. Delete Apple’s core app:
Apple didn’t mention this in the keynote speech, but they are finally allowing users to remove most of Apple’s core once nonremovable apps from their handsets. Technically only the user data is deleted, while the app remains hidden on your device, so if you find that a day comes when you finally need to check stocks, or locate north on your compass, you can simply restore the apps via the App Store just like you would a regular app.
5. Improved 3D Touch:
Users of the iPhone 6S will be familiar with 3D Touch, but with iOS 10 you’ll be able to do more with it. Your Apps now have little widgets with extra info, and the control panel has new settings for things like flashlight or the camera.
Other improvements include a redesigned maps, responsive predictive texts, a Home app to control all of your HomeKit-compatible smart-home appliance.
Test out the iOS 10 beta yourself on the iPhone 6S, iPhone SE available sim free today.
