Apple AirPods Now Available

Tuesday, September 19th, 2017

Apple AirPods are now available to purchase with UK and International shipping, making a perfect accompaniment for those who are looking to get their hands on an iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus or the infamous iPhone X.

What are the benefits of AirPods over normal headphones?

Since the release of iPhone 7 and 7 Plus devices, Apple have removed the headphone jack port from their devices. Removing the headphone jack allowed Apple to slim down the handsets and pack in extra tech into the housing, but it did cause a headache for those looking to use their regular headphones with the updated mobiles.

Whilst Apple do include a headphone to lightning adapter for your headphones, this does make charging your device whilst using your headphones impossible. This is where the AirPods step in.

AirPods offer the following highlights:

  • Designed by Apple
  • Automatically on, automatically connected
  • One-tap setup for all your Apple devices(1)
  • Quick access to Siri with a double tap
  • More than 24-hour battery life with Charging Case(3)
  • Charges quickly in the case
  • Rich, high-quality audio and voice
  • Seamless switching between devices

A closer look at Apple’s wireless charging and AirPower Charging mat

Monday, September 18th, 2017

The iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X are the first devices in Apple’s mobile history to offer Qi wireless charging.

What is Qi Charging?

Already in use on Samsung devices (Samsung Galaxy S8 & S8+), Qi charging allows you to wirelessly charge a compatible device’s battery using induction transfer, simply by placing it on top of a wireless pad. Qi Wireless Charging uses a resonant inductive coupling between the sender (the charging station) and the reciever (the mobile device)

source: CNET

Unusually for Apple, the tech giant have made their wireless charging feature compatible with any Qi charger, not just their upcoming AirPower accessory.

What is the AirPower?

The upcoming AirPower pad will not only charge the latest iPhones, but also the Apple Watch and AirPods simultaneously. Apple have also said it is working on the AirPower becoming fully Qi-compliant, meaning that the AirPower will offer compatibility with non-Apple Qi-compliant products.

When will the AirPower be available and how much will it cost?

Apple said that AirPower will be available in 2018, with no set date or price announced as yet.

‘Blush Gold’ Colour Option for the iPhone 8 leaked

Monday, August 14th, 2017

Mobile Reporter Benjamin Geskin (@VenyaGeskin1)  leaked some information rumoured to be sourced direct from Foxconn, suggesting a ‘Blush Gold’ variant of the iPhone 8 could be on the way.

If these images are correct, we could see Apple move from the pink toned ‘Rose Gold’ option, to a rusty copper hue that may offer a wider appeal across Apple’s demographics. The new device is likely to  come in two storage options – 64GB and 128GB.

Geskin has also tweeted out concept images showcasing Apple’s ‘virtual home button,’ allowing for less bezel and a larger screen size.
