Are Consumers Looking Towards Used and Refurbished Handsets?

Thursday, February 4th, 2021

refurbished blog image

We are on the brink of a used and refurbished handset movement. According to a 2020 study done by Mordor Intelligence, the used and refurbished smartphone market is expected “to grow at a CAGR of 12.61% during the forecast period 2021 to 2026.” This spike reflects the growing popularity of e-commerce platforms and the general public’s desire for affordable technology. But what can we expect from the trend of purchasing used and refurbished mobiles? And what are the benefits of joining the movement?

Used vs Refurbished Handsets

A used handset is one that has had a previous owner. Meanwhile, a refurbished handset is a used handset that has been repaired and matched to a specific industry standard. Refurbished phones are placed into quality-determined grades when they are sold, so the buys knows what to expect. Typically the handsets are sorted into the following grades: Grade A: as good as new, Grade B: slightly used (expect the odd chip or scratch), Grade C: used (up to five blemishes), and Grade D: well-used. Here at Unlocked Mobiles we only sell Grade A refurbished handsets so you get quality as good as new products at an affordable price.

The Benefits of Buying Used and Refurbished

The first and most prominent benefit of being refurbished is the cost. Buying refurbished saves you money and makes the most cutting-edge mobile advancements more affordable for the average person. Not convinced? Buying refurbished also gives you freedom. With Unlocked Mobiles, you can opt out of a costly contract with an unlocked, sim free device. When you buy through Unlocked Mobiles, you’ll receive a 12-24 month warranty to ensure your refurbished phone is up to quality and satisfaction. What about a global impact? Buying a used or refurbished handset is better for the environment. The volume of e-waste has been rising significantly over the past ten years. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), it is estimated that between 20 and 50 million tons of e-waste gets generated worldwide annually. In that, there are roughly 416,000 cellphones disposed of each day. By buying refurbished from Unlocked Mobiles, you are taking a step to reducing e-waste pollution and bettering the planet.

Could the next iPhone have improved Water Resistant protection?

Friday, June 15th, 2018

A Patent recently filed by phone giants Apple hints at an upgrade from their current IP67 water resistace grading.

source CNET

The patent is for:

“Accessories for an electronic device are sealed and include a connector having a deformable seal positioned on it such that when the connector is mated to the electronic device a liquid-tight seal is formed between the accessory and the electronic device. The accessories have functions that are useful in moist, wet and/or dirty environments.”

iPhone patent

Accessories that have a liquid-tight seal when plugged into a device could be the advancement we’ve been waiting for from Apple. Current water-proof handsets that use a gasket and plugging cover to seal up ports against water aren’t  effective when accessories are added. These sealed accessories could allow for an IP IP68 rating, providing protection against water at depths of up to 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes, even when your headphones are plugged in.

If you can’t wait for Apple’s next device, check out the iPhone X and iPhone 8 available now for UK and international delivery.

  • Who is the captain of the England squad?
  • Who won the Argentina-Iceland match?
  • What teams are in group D?

Fans of football can also keep up to date with the world wide tournament on Apple News or enjoy special playlists form all 32 nations on Apple Music. Additional football content has been added to the Clips feature.

Screen Shot 2017-09-04 at 16.17.51  An icon depicting the front design of the iPhone 8 was leaked by Apple themselves via the HomePod’s firmware. An image of this design shoes the loss of the Home button, a screen running almost edge to edge, a very slim bezel of just 4mm on each side and points towards face recognition technology.

Mobile Reporter Benjamin Geskin also tweeted alleged glass to be used on the iPhone 8, which backs up the design of the HomePod icon.
