Huawei Mobile World Congress Wrap Up 2017

Over 108,000 attendees from 208 countries witnessed a plethora of announcements at Mobile World Congress this year. LG kicked off the unveilings with the LG G6, followed by their LG X Power2. Sony released their Sony Xperia XZ, XA1 and XA1 Ultra, whilst Motorola confirmed the Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus, two new budget handsets from parent company Lenovo.

Huawei contributions came in the form of the Huawei P10, P10 Plus and the latest Huawei Watch 2.

Top 5 News Expected at Mobile World Congress 2017

MWC 2017 officially runs from Monday February 27 to Thursday March 2 this year. Whilst rumours are hotting up that Samsung are shunning the mobile industry’s leading event for their own New York Galaxy S8 launch, there is still a hot bed of releases to look forward to.

1. Sony are expected to unveil not one but five new smartphones, including a 5.5 inch, 4K flagship optimised for virtual reality.

2. Huawei is said to be preparing to unveil its P10 handset with a Leica dual camera system.

3. Nokia recent return to the mobile market came with the launch of its first Android phone, the Nokia 6 in China. Nokia are now reportedly  set to reveal its biggest product ever at MWC 2017.

4. BlackBerry are set to announce the BlackBerry Dtek70 Mercury in time for MWC, with a physical keyboard and Android OS.

5. The no-frills LG G6 Sim Free is likely to appear during the show, removing the modular system and heading for a more conventional design.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 to be announced in New York next month

Samsung have been announcing their Galaxy flagship handsets at Mobile World Congress for as long as we can remember, but 2017 may see Samsung break this pattern with a dedicated launch event in New York this month.

The South Korean tech giants are rumoured to be releasing two sizes, both with curved screens, according to the Wall Street Journal. Recent leaked images also suggest that both handsets will featured a curved ‘infinity’ edge to edge screen and the removal of the physical home button:

LG G6 to feature an Upgraded Quad DAC

LG offered incredible audio quality on the LG V20 with Quad DAC (four digital-to-analog converters). The ES9218 DAC from ESS,  featured a parallel sub-DAC configuration to improve noise performance and total harmonic distortion.

But it looks like the LG G6 might take the audio quality a step further, as it’s going to feature an upgraded Quad DAC.  The new 32-bit DAC will offer distortion levels of just 0.0002% for a clean sound and will also allow control the left and right earphones separately, for more balanced audio experience.

BlackBerry’s Mercury handset leaked on ABC Sitcom

We are all aware the product placement is a huge marketing tactic, but imagine our surprise to see the yet to be released BlackBerry Mercury pop up on ABC’s The Last Man Standing. The ‘DTEK70′ Mercury device is predicted to be released on Saturday 25th February, days before Mobile World Congress 2017.

The latest episode shows the QWERTY handset features plenty of screen time, being held and used by Michael Baxter, Allen’s character. The phone also showed a photo of “Brother Jimmy” with animated horns and smoke spewing out of his ears.

From the appearance we can confirm that the device will have a QWERTY keyboard underneath a 4.5-inch touchscreen display. Rumours are circulating that the QWERTY keypad will also act as a trackpad, will run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor and house a fingerprint sensor in the Space Bar.
