Samsung has officially launched the Galaxy A8, the thinnest phone yet from the manufacturer. The new device is just 5.9mm thick, a full millimetre thinner than the iPhone 6. The phone weighs 5.3 ounces and has a small bezel giving the device an appearance of an almost edge to edge glass screen.

The A8 has a 5.7 inch 1080p Super AMOLED display and runs on an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.  With 2GB of RAM there is a personal choice between 16GB or 32GB of storage.

This atest device has a 16 megapixel f/2.2 rear camera together with a 5 megapixel wide-angle f/1.9 front selfie camera. Despite being so thin the A8 comes with a 3050mAh battery. The home button features a fingerprint sensor which can also detect hand wave motions to activate the camera timer.
