Samsung Ativ S vs Nokia Lumia 920 Windows Phones

Saturday, February 9th, 2013

Windows 8 Phones are all the rage at the moment thanks to the release of some impressive devices onto the market. Both Nokia and Samsung have stirred up a lot of excitement in the Windows Phone operating system and it’s easy to see why. But when it comes to buying a phone which one is best? It’s time for a comparison with the Samsung Ativ S vs. Nokia Lumia 920 Windows Phones face off.

It’s all About Looks

Now you should never judge a book by its cover but sadly many of us do judge phones by their appearance, so let’s start there. The Nokia Lumia looks solid and has a quality feel about it. It certainly feels heavy too and it will as it weighs 185g! When you compare this with the 135g Samsung Ativ handset it’s clear to see which one you’ll like more if weight is a deciding point. Samsung always have a great style although in this round there is no denying the Nokia is well designed, despite being heavier.

The Processors

Nokia have managed to produce their fastest ever mobile phone with the Nokia Lumia 920. It runs on a 1.5 GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Chip and has 1 GB of RAM. The Ativ S also has I GB of RAM and also has the same chip inside but it is made all the more smoother thanks to being combined with an Adreno 225 GPU. In this round Samsung wins.

Smile, You’re on Camera

Cameras are now an important consideration for any handset. If you want the best camera there is a clear winner, the Lumia 920. Samsung Ativ S has an 8-MP camera with geo-tagging, LED flash, image stabilisation and 1080P video capture. All sounds good and it is. However, the Lumia has an 8.7 MP Pureview camera with a Carl Zeiss Tessar Lens along with 1080p video capture.  The camera is excellent and comes with some excellent inbuilt features that make it so much easier to capture great images, even in very poor light without the use of the flash.

How About Storage?

There is a clear winner in this department. If you want maximum storage possibilities the Samsung Ativ S is for you. It comes with 16 GB internal storage with an option to expand thanks to the Micro SD card slot. The Lumia 920 hasn’t provided a Micro SD slot which is a real shame. To combat this it’s worth noting it does come with 32 GB of internal storage however this isn’t enough to beat the Ativ S in this round.

What’s the Verdict?

Both of these Windows 8 Phones has its plus points but when it comes to Samsung Ativ S vs. Nokia Lumia 920 Windows Phones the winner seems to be Nokia. They have pulled out all of the stops, especially when it comes to the quality of the design and build of the handset and the camera. In all though each of these handsets is impressive in their own rights and if you’re looking to move to Windows 8 they both provide an enjoyable experience for any user.
