The new 8.9 inch Google Nexus 9, with its high quality design features is set to challenge Apple’s iPad and the iPad Mini. The Nexus 9 has a brushed metal trim around its edges, with a rear casing that arrives in either black, white or sand colours. The device has a streamlined appearance with edges free of flaps, buttons and ports, the Nexus logo prominently displayed on the rear together with the camera lens.  The power buttons and the volume button are at the side of the device sitting flush with the casing. The Nexus 9 supports a double tap wake up to access the device.

The Nexus 9 has an 8.9 inch screen with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 giving a pixel density of 264ppi, the same resolution as on Apple’s iPad Air. The device has two front facing speakers using BoomSound technology and giving great sound quality. The Nexus 9 has a 6700mAh battery which Google says will provide 9.5 hours of video playback time.

Running the new Android 5.0 Lollipop, the device has a battery saving mode which will cuts back the processor performance preventing  the device from updating apps and will effectively cut off the device from the internet. The Nexus 9 has an 8 megapixel rear camera with an f/2.4 aperture with autofocus and an LED flash for low light conditions, together with a 1.6 megapixel front camera.

The Nexus 9 comes with either 16GB or 32GB of storage and as with other Nexus devices the 9 does not have a microSD card slot for adding memory, so it will pay to choose wisely.
