New Samsung Galaxy S9 Leaks: Is this the end for the fingerprint sensor?

With the dawn of the new year, the mobile market begin to move towards a new tech season that kicks off at Mobile World Congress.

It is during MWC18 that we expect to see Samsung’s new and improved Galaxy handset, the Galaxy S9.

Current rumours and renders suggest the device may be re-equipped with an Infinity Display that covers almost the entire front, improved facial recognition and some new colours.

In addition, there is talk of a new location for the fingerprint scanner and a query on the inclusion of a dual or single rear facing camera.

A sketch found on  Weibo (a Chinese microblogging platform), suggests that the S9 appears to be just a single-lens camera (not the dual-lens of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8), with the fingerprint sensor directly underneath the camera lens.

This does line up with other rumours in circulation, that the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus will be the only one of the latest flagships to sport the dual lens camera sensors.

Another point of interest from these sketches is the dimensions of the phone. If the list dimensions are to be believed, the S9 will be slightly shorter than the S8 with measurements of 147.63 x 58.63 x 8.41mm. This does make sense, as the S9 is also rumoured to have smaller bezels than its predecessor.

If you can’t wait for the Samsung Galaxy S9, check out the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus that are in stock at an unbelievably low price point.
