The Nokia 7 Plus was one of five handsets announced by HMD Global at this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Launching with the Nokia 8 Sirocco, the device is named the ‘flagship for everyone’ with premium specifications at a mid-end price. As always with Nokia, the device offers a reliable experience, focusing on functionality.
Here’s 7 reasons to buy the Nokia 7 Plus:
1. Design
The rounded corners of the Nokia 7 Plus and the slightly thicker top/bottom bezels is reminiscent of the Google Pixel 2 XL. It’s undeniable when looking at the handset that the main feature here is the 18:9 screen which, along with the small side bezels, makes the 7 Plus look modern and sleek.
The volume rocker and power button are on the right side, whilst on the left is a hybrid dual sim tray. On the bottom of the device is a USB Type C charging port and mono speaker. The top is a 3.5mm jack headphone port.
The back of the device is graced with the Nokia logo, dual camera with Zeiss branding, LED flash and fingerprint scanner.
The Nokia 7 Plus isn’t waterproof like the 8 Sirocco but the build quality is really nice, especially when you consider the price.
2. Display.
Of the whopping five new Nokia phones announced at MWC, the Nokia 7 Plus is the only midrange phone announced with a six-inch screen.
The display is one of the main features of the Nokia 7 Plus, offering a taller 18:9 aspect ratio like so many rivals. It’s sharp, colourful and surprisingly bright – a feature often lacking in the mid-range market. Nokia says the design offers the optimal viewing experience while remaining a one-handed phone
3. Camera
The Nokia 7 Plus camera houses a rear dual-camera system consisting of a 12-megapixel and a 13-megapixel lens with Zeiss optics. Both lenses allow for 2x optical zoom.
The cameras performs well. We didn’t see much shutter lag when tapping the shutter icon, and the results looked good
We did discover the Pro Camera mode, giving you greater control over your shots with white balance, shutter speed and ISO dials. You’ll also be able to access booked mode, Pick the best exposure for your shot and Take photos with a timer.
Nokia are also bringing back the “bothies,” which is when you take a photo or video with the front and rear camera at the same time.
4. Software
Most of HMD’s new Nokia phones run Android One now. It means the phone will have no bloatware — just Google apps.Furthermore, the Android One program means you’re guaranteed to get regular security updates and OS updates for two years, so that’s stepping through P and Q, while also guaranteeing 3 years of security updates.
You get 8.1 Oreo out of the box and access to things like the Google Assistant a swipe away from the homescreen, just like Google’s own Pixel phones.
5. Performance
A Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor and 4GB of RAM should offer sufficient power for ordinary users. There’s 64GB of internal storage available, as well as a MicroSD card slot in case you need more.
6. Battery:
When you think of Nokia, you think battery thanks to the infamous Nokia 3310.
HMD are continuing Nokia’s battery life legacy, promising to make the Nokia 7 Plus offer a two-day battery life. The company was confident in its estimates, and while we can’t confirm it, it’s not an unreasonable claim. With a 3,800mAh battery, the Nokia 7 Plus’ other mid-range specs shouldn’t demand too much power.
We experienced an average of 1-and-half-day of battery life on a single charge. Quick-charging support means a full charge takes around 95 minutes in my testing – to fill the phone from zero to 100 per cent.
7. Audio
