The Flir Thermal Imaging Camera on the Cat S60

Saturday, July 30th, 2016

The Cat S60 has been taking the construction world by storm thanks to its twin camera sensors, in particular the FLIR thermal camera.

The main 13 megapixel sensor on the drop proof, dust resistant handset will capture everyday images easily, but the magic happens when it pairs up with the thermal imaging sensor.

The FLIR thermal camera records temperatures and displays them as different coloured readings. A separate app overlays a low resolution feed from the main 13MP camera to add detail and depth to the thermal readings and also allows you to swipe between regular photography and thermal.

The resolution of the camera is a slightly lower than its smartphone competitors at640x480, but it is significantly better than any other off the shelf thermal cameras making it a great choice for anyone in construction or even the emergency services.

The Cat S60 not only shows temperatures in real time, but it also allows you to capture the image and retrospectively analysis the data. This means you don’t have to worry about collecting all of the thermal data live, as temperature readings are saved in the metadata of every photograph.  The in built thermal camera app also offers nine different filters, which you can even use whilst taking videos.
