King of the Selfie: The Sony Xperia XA Ultra

Sunday, September 4th, 2016

The Sony Xperia XA Ultra has many appealing features, with the two standouts being the large display and the amazing camera combo.

A 21.5-megapixel camera adorns the back of the handset and is paired with a 16-megapixel front facing selfie camera complete with LED flash for low light selfies.  We were pleased to see that the camera interface was identical to the more expensive Sony Xperia X and the cameras offered a great level of detail and correct white balance, with little to no visible noise or aberrations. There’s also OIS to compensate for any shaking to produce a sharp picture to share with friends and family.

1. Display:

As the name suggests, the XA Ultra is offers a whopping 6 inch display, with edge to edge display panel and a 76.6% screen-to-body ratio resulting in a usable size phablet with excellent viewing capabilities. Sony have added protective curved glass around the edges resulting in some of the best viewing angles we’ve seen.

2. Camera

The rear camera on the Xperia XA Ultra is also huge at 21.5MP rear camera with phase detection auto-focus and an LED flash.  The front camera also seriously impresses us and will certainly interest regular selfie snappers. The 16MP front camera with 1/2.6 inch type sensor, autofocus, OIS and even an LED flash will allow you to capture incredible low light pictures.

3. Price:

Did we mention that this handset is under £300? Did we also mention that is is powering on an octa-core Mediatek Helio P10 processor (the same chipset that Sony used in the Xperia XA) with 3GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage? It’s a no brainer budget friendly option that should be in the pocket of anyone who streams, games, takes photographs or browses on a regular basis – which, let’s face it, is all of us.

This one is for Big-screen fans: the 6-inch Sony Xperia XA Ultra is now in stock. Despite its generous dimensions, the XA Ultra offers a familiar Sony rectangular design, with extra slim side bezels.
