Android 7.1 Beta coming soon for Nexus Handsets

Owners of the LG Nexus 5X, Huawei Nexus 6P and the Google Nexus 9, it’s time to get excited. The Beta version of Android 7.1 is launching for your device.  Android 7.1 is an incremental maintenance release of Android Nougat. It includes the productivity, security, and performance of Android 7.0, along with a variety of optimizations and bug fixes, features, and new APIs (API level 25).

Simply sign up for the Android Beta Program and you’ll be able to access to the beta for Android 7.1.1. The final version will add support for the Google Nexus 6 and the Nexus Player.

New features include fingerprint gesture supports and changes to the notification bar.

However, there are a huge list of Anroid 7.1 features that remain exclusive to the Google Pixel and Pixel XL devices, including:

  • Pixel Launcher
  • Google Assistant
  • Unlimited original quality photo/video backup to Google Photos
  • Smart Storage
  • Phone/Chat support (new support tab in settings), screen-share functionality

Check out the leaked Press Renders of Google’s Pixel Phone

Evan Blass @evleaks is at it again, leaking press renders of Google’s upcoming Pixel phone, which won’t look extraordinary on the outside, but promises to pack in plenty of new software tricks.

The Pixel handset will reportedly be coming in two variants;  Pixel X with a 5-inch 1080p resolution screen and a larger 5.5-inch Pixel XL with a QuadHD screen. Both handsets will reportedly run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chips, house 12-megapixel rear cameras, 8-megapixel front cameras, 4GB of RAM, and storage ranging from 32-128GB (with no memory card).

Design-wise, the Pixels will continue the aesthetic tradition of Google’s Nexus devices, will apparently be built by HTC.

Will the next Nexus be a Huawei handset?

Huawei’s Nexus 6P was arguably the best phone Google and Huawei have ever created and it looks like this partnership is here to stay.

Whilst it was reported that Huawei had  trademarked the “Huawei 7P” name earlier this year, Evleak’s Evan Blass tweeted out news of a Google Huawei built 7 inch tablet, with 4 GB Ram and a release date of later this year. Could this be the next Nexus?

We’re expecting to see this ‘new Nexus’ to launch at the same time as the Google Pixel smartphone next month.

The LG Nexus 5X Now Available in Quartz White

Capturing the design of the Nexus family with sleek lines and light weight exterior, the LG Nexus 5X is now available to purchase in a Quartz White.

Slightly smaller in size to the Huawei Nexus 6P at 147 x 72.6 x 7.9mm, LG’s Nexus 5X offers a 5.2 inch 1080p display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for extra protection and durability. The display also has a fingerprint and smudge resistant oleophobic coating which ensures the clarity of the display remains.

The LG Nexus 5X also introduces Google’s first fingerprint sensor, coined the Nexus Imprint. This phone-based biometric fingerprint sensor is located on the back of the device for ease of access.

The LG Nexus 5x runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow, with automatic software updates.  The Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, 2.0 GHz hexa-core 64 bit provides seamless multitasking through the pre-installed Google apps including Maps, Chrome, YouTube and Drive.
