Get Organised with Widgets on your iPhone with iOS10

Monday, October 3rd, 2016

The new iOS10 update arrived along side the release of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, and with the operating system came a new hub for widgets. Read on to find out more about iPhone widgets and how they can turn you into an organisational wizard.

What is a Widget?

A Widget is simply an app extension that offers a quick glance at important information without you having to actually open a single app.

Where can I find the Widgets on iOS 10?

Simply swipe left on the lock page or home screen to locate the Widget hub.  Things have become a lot easier thanks to the time-saving features on the update, including Raise to Wake so you’ll be able to quickly and easily glance at all of your notifications, your widgets and Control Centre with just a swipe or a press.

What can I do with Widgets?

Widgets offer a wealth of opportunities, from checking the weather, your reminders, events on your calendar or the battery levels on connected devices. You can even perform common tasks, such as a phone call etc direct from the Widgets. Like your app usage, it’s all about tailoring the widgets to your personal needs and finding what works for you.

iOS10 Widgets

How do I get started with Widgets on iOS10?

If you have a 3D touch enabled device (iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7, or iPhone 7 Plus), you can use 3D Touch to add new widgets offered by your installed apps. Simply press down on your chosen app icon and you’ll see the Widget module underneath or above the Quick Actions. You’ll then have the option to  “Add Widget” on the top right.

If your have an iPhone 6 or below without 3D Touch, simply access new widgets by going to your widgets page and hitting “Edit.”

Third Party Apps with Widgets that we recommend:

Apple’s own widgets are pretty good and cover the essentials, including music, weather, Siri suggestions (your most used apps) but don’t forget that you can add third party apps to get the most out of the Widget hub. Here are a few suggestions to help you get started:

1. Picniic (free):
