Time to drop the Chat: Snap launches their very own Video Spectacles

Tuesday, September 27th, 2016

Over the weekend, Snap Inc (previously Snapchat) unveiled a pair of colourful retro styled video camera-equipped sunglasses called ‘Spectacles’.

The new shades (which will retail at approx £100) will allow social media users to shoot 10-second videos to upload to Snap Inc. The video is recorded via a 115 degree angle lens to match the eye’s natural field of vision, with flashing lights on the front of the device to indicate it’s recording.

The funky round glasses will come in three colours (black, teal and coral), will connect seamlessly to the Snap app and will transfer footage from the glasses to iOS devices via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth (on Android devices it will transfer via Wi-Fi only.)

CEO Evan Spiegel called the new product a “toy” to be worn “for kicks at a barbecue and outdoor concert.” ”It’s about us figuring out if it fits into people’s lives and seeing how they like it,” (via The Wall Street Journal).

Alongside the new product launch, the Los Angeles-based Social Network also shortened its name to just Snap Inc. A sign that the app company want to broadened its vision to strengthen its continuing lead against competitor Twitter.

Purchase the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, to connect to your Snap Spectacles today.
