Will we ever see the Samsung Galaxy Fold? We hope so.

Monday, May 13th, 2019

A little under three months ago a few members of the Unlocked Mobiles team were in attendance at the Samsung event in San Francisco, where Samsung unveiled the future in smartphones, well at least we thought so, with the Samsung Galaxy Fold. The hall was filled with excitement, everyone thought that this was an industry changer and we were expecting a new evolution in handheld devices.

After the announcements, we all made our way through the exhibition area to the sample rooms on either side of the venue, we were all excited to see the amazing new device. However, there was one strange question by everyone at this event when we got to the display stands – just why is the Galaxy Fold not on display? Why would there be an announcement for a product and then not have it to show the people who were invited. If there was an indication that Samsung were not ready to showcase this device then this was it. A week later at MWC in Barcelona, we were greeted with exactly the same situation. However, we had faith in Samsung, even after the Note issues in the past, surely they would not make a similar mistake? Well, it appears to have happened again. The lucky people (press and influences that haven’t paid and would have to return the initial samples) who got to use the device before general sale started to receive their sample units and gradually the devices became unusable and failed.

As of writing this post, we are still unsure at to whether the Fold will be released. We hope it does. We hope it will work and we hope it will make way for a new array of amazing devices from Samsung and other OEM manufacturers. Be confident that if it is released, Unlocked Mobiles will stock the Samsung Galaxy Fold Sim Free, so register your interest on our product page – you never know – it may be the best phone ever released after all!

Samsung Unpacked: The Samsung Galaxy X

Tuesday, February 19th, 2019

Samsung is bucking the trend, announcing their new devices at the dedicated Samsung Unpacked event this coming Wednesday in San Fransisco rather than at the traditional announcement venue, MWC, Barcelona.

Samsung Galaxy Unpacked
Stakes are high for the Tech Giant as the mobile industry awaits confirmation of their industry changing foldable handset, rumoured to be called the Samsung Galaxy X.

We’ve been hearing tales of folding displays for years, and we’ve finally seen these dreams come to fruition with secretive snapshots of the long rumoured Galaxy X at Samsung’s annual developer conference back in November and as a teaser in their latest marketing video.

The flagship phone, groundbreaking the Galaxy Fold or Galaxy F) is said to offer an incredible 7.3-inch flexible OLED that folds in half. We are also expecting to see a secondary, smaller 4.6 inch OLED “cover display” that lets you continue using the device when the larger display is folded shut.

Other rumoured ground breaking specs include a battery capacity of 6,200 mAh in the form of not one, but two 3,100 mAh batteries.

Like the Galaxy S10, the foldable Galaxy X will be powered by the top-of-the-line Qualcomm SnapDragon 855 chipset, coupled with 6GB of RAM and a minimum of 128GB of in-built storage.

Unlocked Mobiles will be reporting live from the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event, so stay tuned for up to date reports as they happen.

Samsung to bring out a foldable smartphone in the next few months.

Sunday, February 3rd, 2019

At their developer conference late last year, Samsung announced the first details about its foldable phone. The tech giant teased the audience, revealing that the screen technology will be called the Samsung Infinity Flex Display and then quickly dimmed the lights to cloak the rest of the news in mystery.

Samsung did provide a slither of deals about the phone’s displays and user interface before leaving us in the dark. They’ve hinted that the folding flagship will have two displays: a long 4.5-inch 840 x 1960 screen on the outside of the device, and a foldable 7.3-inch interior display.

Rumoured to be called the Samsung Galaxy X or Galaxy F, the foldable flagship from Samsung will probably want to equip the phone with a large battery to go with the large display. SamMobile reported Samsung would begin producing flexible batteries with capacities ranging from 3,000mAh to 6,000mAh to support the developments in display technology.

We’ve already seen a patent request from Samsung back in 2016 that may show what the user interface will look like on the new device. filed by Samsung in South Korea the patent was named ‘Electronic Device Comprising Multiple Display and Method for Controlling Thereof‘. It details the software side of how a potential foldable phone launched by the company could work.

Speculation is hot that Samsung’s foldable smartphone could be the next addition to the Galaxy family and billboards erected in Paris suggest we’re likely to see the final product as early as Feb 20th.

Coinciding with MWC in February we’re expecting to find out all the details for the foldable Samsung, alongside the release of the company’s Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus device.

Register your details for the foldable Samsung device today to be the first in line to preorder the handset.

Samsung promise 5G Handsets in the first half of 2019

Tuesday, January 8th, 2019

Samsung teased us with hints of the Galaxy S10 prior to their CES Press Conference. While we did not get to see the handset per se, we did hear a lot about the tech under the hood of the S10, including 5G technology and 7nm chipsets.

CES-2019-Press-Conference-JON_2834-400x400

Samsung marked their 50 year anniversary with two big promises; 2019 will be the year we’ll see the “First 5G Smartphone to be Released”, and they are “the first company to receive FCC approval on… commercial 5G equipment.”

Samsung also committed to putting the power of 5G in consumers’ hands in the first half of 2019. As the S range is normally released in Spring, our bets are on the S10, or the rumoured 4 members of the S10 family (including an ‘ultra-premium’ Plus-branded variant and a cut-price ‘budget’ version), being the first in line for 5G connectivity.

Also at CES 2019 is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, the chipset that’s expected to power the Galaxy S10.

Revealed: Samsung and Disney Collaborate on Zootopia-Themed AR Emojis

Thursday, September 20th, 2018

Augmented Reality Avatars hit our mobile devices late last year, giving us a new way to express ourselves in message beyond the 2D Emoji keyboard.

This month we saw Apple update their Animojis to Memojis (Me + emoji = Memoji) on iOS12, and Samsung up their entertainment game with a development in their collaboration with everyones childhood favourites, Disney.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 was the first pairing of Samsung Electronics and Disney, bringing a number of Disney characters to life as downloadable AR Emojis. Now, the addition of three beloved characters from Disney’s hit movie Zootopia has made messaging on Galaxy devices even more magical.

Screen Shot 2018-09-20 at 09.00.47

Turn yourself into Judy Hopps, Nick Wilde and Flash or one of the ever-growing roster of animated Disney characters that are currently available for users to download, including Mickey Mouse and friends as well as characters from The Incredibles and Frozen.

Simply load up the camera’s AR Emoji mode, tap on the plus icon and select Zootopia AR pack form the Galaxy App store. You’ll then be able to create and share animated emojis, images, videos or gifs to keep your friends and family entertained.

Invitations are out for a new Galaxy Launch: Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2018

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2018

We’re accustomed to Samsung gracing us with some new Galaxy tech in early Autumn each year, but 2018 sees the tech giants surprising us a month early.

In a recent tweet posted by Samsung Mobile last week, we received news of an upcoming Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event on August 9, 2018.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 launch event

In just over a month, Samsung Electronics will welcome a new member to the premium Galaxy family.

It’s the next big Android smartphone to release, and rumours are that we’ll be introduced to the Galaxy Note 9 during the event held in Brooklyn, New York.

We are expecting to see  some big specification updates over the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, but similar phablet design with the ever popular S pen included – as shown in some recent render leaks:
